The Upstairs Lounge has been a pioneer in the St. Louis scene ever since it reared its ugly head out of St. Louis' scene of mediocrity. Its combination of local yet original style sets it apart from other competitors, many which try to replicate the chemistry.

The Upstairs, as with all great bars, started with sex, drugs and rock n' roll. Combined, its punk rock roots and these elements led the Upstairs to a couple of near-death experiences, and hence, the Upstairs has been reincarnated into a sophisticated yet street-smart, new world urban environment. The Upstairs crosses all lines of age, racial, political, gender, religious and sex lifestyles where all welcomed. This is what sets the Upstairs apart from the imitators that have popped up as mimics--the sucess of the Upstairs is due to the fact that it is not solely dependent on one particular clique or cliche'. This eclectic foundation held together with harmony is what sets the Upstairs on a pedestal above the rest.
